Mini Multimodal Assignment #2: Categorizing Sources
The Assignment’s Rhetorical Situation
We have reviewed types of sources and categorized various types of sources using the following terms: Non-Credible, Popular, Scholarly, and Tertiary. We also discussed the differences between Primary and Secondary Source. Based on those discussions and class work, please illustrate your understanding of the different types of sources and how to best categorize them by creating a Multimodal Text using the following rhetorical situation:
Purpose: Create a Multimodal Text that helps your audience understand the differences and similarities between the terms Non-Credible, Popular, Scholarly, Tertiary, Primary, and Secondary Sources. Be sure to include specific examples and references to various discourse communities.
Audience: Your audience will be your fellow ENG 102 peers, and you can assume that they have only a basic understanding of sources, source evaluation, and discourse communities.
Assignment Guidelines:
Please create a Multimodal Text that defines, compares, contrasts, and shows multiple examples of types of sources. Use course materials and the Internet to help you. The text should include the following:
Include clear explanations & examples of Non-Credible, Popular, Scholarly, Tertiary, Primary, and Secondary Sources.
Connect specific types of sources to various discourse communities and writing genres.
Provide a reference or citation for each resource used (does not have to follow MLA standards)
Show understanding of the rhetorical situation by creating a neat & organized text
Use multiple modes of communication (alphabetic text, sounds, images, colors, font, video, etc.)
Write a two-three sentence reflection describing your rationale for the decisions that you made
Assignment Assessment:
Your text will be evaluated using the following criteria:
Including clear explanations & examples
Illustrating accurate understanding of the different types of sources & how they relate to different discourse communities & writing genres
Avoiding plagiarism by citing or referencing outside materials
Using creativity and rhetorical skills
Creating a neat and logical text
Posting it and the descriptive reflection to Blackboard on time and correctly
